Our Positions on Chico's Major Issues
The Esplanade League believes that it is imperative to have progressive city counselors who will take a thoughtful, visionary and sustainable approach to the New general Plan. The opposition will plan for more sprawl, more malls,
more parking lots and more giveaways of precious agricultural land for unsupportable development. A progressive city council can be counted upon to maintain Chico values, Chico quality of life, safety and health, and thoughtful growth.
- Compact growth to prevent sprawl, with growth boundaries and quality infill
- Neighborhoods designed for a sense of community, with narrower streets and ample shade trees
- Greater choice of housing styles, designed for more affordable ownership and rent
- Alternative building and design standards
- Protect the environment, groundwater, streams, agricultural resources, and our urban forest
- Reduce traffic by designing development for improved traffic circulation, less reliance on autos, better access to public transit and safe pedestrian-bicycle routes.
